Wood adds elegance and attractiveness, making it more valued than other materials in spaces in and around the home. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of time and work to keep it looking great over the years because as it ages, cracks can form and the wood can lose its shine.

The good news is that there are several natural solutions you can use to clean wood and restore its appearance and shine. Below we will show you some of the most effective remedies to use in and around the home. Are you interested?

1. Using beeswax and white spirit to clean wood

Cleaning wood with beeswax and white spirit

With this natural preparation  you are able to clean wooden surfaces without staining or changing the color. It is made with beeswax and white spirit, two ingredients with an oily texture, making wooden surfaces smooth and radiant.

Ingredients

  • 60 grams of beeswax
  • 60 grams of turpentine

Instructions

  • Melt the beeswax in a bain-marie, stirring continuously.
  • When it has melted, remove it from the heat and slowly add the white spirit.
  • Keep it in a sealed jar.
  • You can also use scented essential oils to disguise the strong turpentine scent.

How do you use it?

  • Take a small amount and rub it into the wooden floor or furniture with a microfibre cloth.

2. Olive Oil And Lemon Solution

This lemon and olive oil solution is best for dark, worn furniture. The natural oils make the surfaces shine and also  leave a protective layer against dust. The lemon juice disinfects and cleans the surface.

Ingredients

  • 130 ml olive oil
  • 60 ml lemon juice

Instructions

  • For our purpose, we can use refined oil because we don’t use it for our skin or as food.
  • Mix both ingredients well.

How do you use it?

  • Using a spray bottle, apply the solution to the surfaces you want to clean. Then use a microfibre or cotton cloth to polish the wood.

3. Vaseline

Vaseline is a petroleum product, which has an oily texture that makes dull furniture shine as if it were new. Combine it with a little alcohol to remove dirt and accumulated oils.

Ingredients

  • Three tablespoons of Vaseline
  • Two tablespoons of alcohol

Instructions

  • Put the petroleum jelly in a jar and mix it with the alcohol.

How do you use it?

  • Apply a thin layer to the wooden floor and furniture, then wipe with a clean cloth.

4. Almond Oil And White Vinegar

This homemade furniture cleaner is a great alternative for cleaning wooden surfaces that are very aged  and for removing stubborn stains. It’s also great for removing water spots created by glasses and restoring the natural shine of the surface.

Ingredients

  • 180 ml almond oil
  • 60 ml white vinegar

How do you use it?

  • Apply the product to the wood and rub it in well with a soft cloth.

5. Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed and linseed oil

The combination of linseed oil and white spirit makes the wood look like it’s brand new. We do have to warn you to use it with care,  because using too much can make the surface greasy.

Ingredients

  • 120 grams of linseed oil
  • 60 ml turpentine

Instructions

  • Heat the linseed oil, add the white spirit and mix well.

How do you use it?

  • Take a few tablespoons of the agent and then rub it into the wood with a soft cloth.
